SOFTBALL: Cardinals extend winning streak to five games

Ball State opens Miami Tournament with wins over Toledo, Marshall

Ball State opened the Miami Tournament Saturday with high-powered offense and dominant pitching.

Defeating Mid-American Conference foe Toledo and Marshall by a combined score of 16-4, Ball State moves its overall record to 19-11 on the season and extends its winning streak to five games.

In the first game against the Rockets, Ball State scored six times on nine hits. Freshman first baseman Taylor Rager led the way for Ball State, going 1-2 with three RBIs. Senior center fielder Lisa Rozanski added three hits, two stolen bases, and an RBI.

Against the Herd in the afternoon game, Ball State's pitching staff gave up two runs and four hits in five innings of work. The offense continued their surge on the day, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits.

Sophomore right-hander Audra Sanders pitched all five innings for the Cardinals, striking out three batters to go along with four hits and two runs. Rager continued to show her offensive prowess, going 3-3 with a home run, walk, and four RBIs.

Ball State finishes up play in the Miami Tournament Sunday against Marshall and Purdue.

First pitch is at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
