MEN'S BASKETBALL: MAC honors Jarrod Jones, Chris Bond

Bond is fourth consecutive Ball State player selected to All-Freshman Team

Ball State's Jarrod Jones and Chris Bond have been honored for their play on the court this season.

Jones has been named First Team All Mid-American Conference while Bond has been named to the MAC's All-Freshmen Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Jones' First Team selection is the first for a Ball State player since Chris Williams in 2003.

For the third year in a row, Jones led the Cardinals in scoring at 14.6 points per game. He also averaged a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game.

Jones ranked ninth in the MAC in scoring and second in rebounds in the regular season.

Jones posted 10 double-doubles on the season and received the MAC West Player of the Week Award three times. He had more than 20 points in four games.

He moved into 21st in Ball State history in career scoring with 1,151 points and seventh all-time in rebounds with 701.

Bond, who has gradually become one of Ball State's best finishers at the rim, appeared in 28 games for the Cardinals this season and has started the past 11.

In MAC play, since moving into the starting lineup against Ohio earlier in the year, Bond has averaged 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.

Bond's All-Freshmen selection marks the fourth consecutive year a Ball State freshmen has been named to the team. The previous players selected since 2007 were Jauwan Scaife, Jarrod Jones and Melvin Goins.

The MAC's 12 head coaches voted on the players for the All-MAC and All-Freshman teams.
