Donnelly touring Ind. weighing possible Senate run

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Democratic Congressman Joe Donnelly is touring the state weighing whether he should run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Richard Lugar.

The South Bend Tribune reports that the northern Indiana Democrat went into heavily Republican Hamilton County just north of Indianapolis on Monday night to speak at a Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner. His office says he's also scheduled to speak at dinners in Dearborn, Floyd, Franklin and Hendricks counties and the 3rd Congressional District dinner in Columbia City.

Donnelly says people have told him he should look at running for the Senate, and that's what he's doing.

Donnelly narrowly defeated former Republican state Rep. Jackie Walorski last November. The Republican-controlled Indiana General Assembly is expected to redraw his district to make it more favorable for a GOP candidate.
