Biker Safety Awareness falls through

Not a single student registered their bikes for free Tuesday during the Student Government Association and University Police Department's Biker Safety Awareness.

SGA Student Safety committee member Bridget Edgeworth said tables they were supposed to have set up were never delivered could have contributed to the low turn out.

Edgewood stood next to UPD officer David Huff and his police car between the University Theatre and Bracken Library between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Edgewood offered free bike registration to students while Huff offered handouts about bike safety.

"Maybe it was because [of] the weather, but there just wasn't much bike traffic," Huff said.

Edgewood said she has high hopes for a second try at a Biker Safety Awareness event.

"I think we have a decent feel for what we want to do in the very, very near future," she said. "I know we're going to try at the very least to do it in the fall, but there is talk about doing it before the school year ends this semester."
