WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State goes 2-1 over weekend in Dayton

Team picks up wins against West Virginia State, Robert Morris but loses to Air Force

The Ball State women's tennis team returned home this weekend after sweeping both West Virginia State and Robert Morris of Chicago on Saturday, but followed with a 6-1 loss to Air Force on Sunday.

The team traveled to Dayton, Ohio for the first match against West Virginia State, which was delayed until 3:30 p.m., but did not stop the Cardinals from sweeping Yellow Jackets 5-0.

The teams only played to five points because of the delayed start.

"It was kind of crazy we played until completion because there was also another tournament going on," coach Christine Bader said. "They pushed back our start time, we were supposed to start at one and we actually ended up starting at 3:30."

Ball State won every match in straight sets.

Ball State looked to keep momentum as they took on Robert Morris in the night match. Ball State's dominance continued by defeating Robert Morris 7-0

Ball State's dominance didn't come easy in as Robert Morris's Karyn Emeralda took Sarah Hebble to three sets but lost 4-6, 6-2, 9-11.

Despite the Cardinals efforts to sweep the entire weekend, unforced errors kept the Cardinals from beating Air Force on Sunday afternoon, Bader said as the Cardinals lost 6-1.

The Cardinals improve to 5-6 after the weekend and before spring break arrives they will compete at home next weekend against Chicago State at the Muncie YMCA.
