WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals looking for fifth MAC win

Team looking to stay perfect in conference at home

After an unsuccessful trip to Buffalo, Ball State resumes Mid-American Conference play tonight when it hosts Ohio at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.

Ohio (6-15) is on a two-game skid and has lost six of its eight conference games this season.

Ball State (9-12, 4-4 MAC) dropped its most recent contest to MAC foe Buffalo 77-61 on Saturday, but the Cardinals are looking to remain undefeated at home during conference play.

Coach Kelly Packard said her team needs to focus on winning each minute of the game.

"We'll win the big moment which is the ultimate outcome of the game if we win all the small moments in 40 minutes," she said. "You win the moment by getting a defensive rebound every time a shot goes up and it's missed. You win the moment by taking care of the basketball one dribble at a time, one pass at a time."

Senior forward Emily Maggert tallied 19 points for the Cardinals in their last game, but Packard will rely on Maggert's ability to rebound tonight.

The Bobcats have snagged 322 offensive rebounds and held their opponents to 266. Packard said rebounding will be the central focus for the Cardinals.

In last season's matchup, the Cardinals fell to the Bobcats 62-59 in Athens, Ohio.

Junior guard Tenishia Benson leads Ohio with 13.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
