Student trustee applications available today

One student will have the chance to have his or her voice heard by the Ball State administration as a student trustee and a watchdog of important monies.

As a student trustee, it is that person's responsibility to keep an eye on state money and tuition dollars. He or she will act as a student voice for not only for the nine-member trustee board, but for all Ball State students.

The student trustee will also attend board meetings and additional university events.

Juliana Abercrombie, Student Government Association secretary, said the five-person trustee selection committee is looking for someone who can represent beyond just student perspective.

"The person we're looking for is someone who is very passionate and very knowledgeable about higher education," she said.

Anita Kelsey, senior assistant to the president, and Nicole Vauter, a student trustee, will be at the meeting to answer questions.

After applying with two recommendations, Abercrombie and the other four students on the selection committee will interview each applicant. The committee will then choose their recommendation to give to the governor.

The governor will make the final decision. The volunteer position will then be held for two years.

Vauter said she thinks the next student liaison should be a natural leader, a hard worker and have good communication skills.

"My advice is to research because it helps a lot," she said. "Talk with as many people as you can and chime in when they are talking about issues that concern students."

Applications are available in the SGA office in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center room 112. All applications are due to the SGA office by 5 p.m. on Feb. 25.

An informational meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the Student Center Cardinal Hall A.
