SOFTBALL: Ball State gets wins against Tennessee State, Mercer

Cardinals improve to 3-0 at Phyllis Rafter Memorial

The Ball State softball team won two games in impressive fashion Saturday in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial in Wookstock, Ga.

Ball State defeated both Tennessee State and Mercer in landslides, defeating Tennessee State 13-5 and Mercer 8-1.

Junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman struggled in Ball State's morning matchup against Tennessee State, giving up five runs and seven hits in five innings pitched. Sophomore pitcher Audra Sanders, on the other hand, dominated the Mercer opposition, giving up only one run and striking out 10 batters in seven innings.

Senior shortstop Alicia Barkley leads the way offensively for Ball State with six hits and four RBIs in the two games Saturday while freshman outfielder Jennifer Gilbert had four hits and five RBIs.

The Cardinals continue play in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Sunday morning against Bowling Green and Georgia State in the afternoon. Both games start at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
