OUR VIEW: It looks like the worst is over

AT ISSUE: SundayGÇÖs forecast calls for above-freezing temperatures, showing spring is truly near

We don't need Punxsutawney Phil to tell us spring is on the way.

Just check out Sunday's forecast. The 41-degree high will hopefully mark an official end to last week's winter storm — that monster of freezing rain and crunchy snow that was barely malleable enough to make a snowman.

There were more than a dozen reported injuries due to ice last week. This week everyone has been watching out for black ice and avoiding the puddles left from melting snow.

According to the Weather Channel, temperatures will be above freezing all next week. It might as well be a heat wave. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Spring is coming, and it's really not that far away.

With four weeks until Spring Break, it's hard to believe that many of us will be escaping Muncie for road trips and beaches. If you're staying in Indiana, it could be a little cool. But it's still better than what we're dealing with now.

Things will get better. Pretty soon the sun will be shining.

It's a sharp contrast from last week, when seasonal affective disorder was undoubtedly at work, keeping some students holed up in their residence halls, sometimes just down the hall from facilities workers and professors who had to stay on campus due to the weather.

There are still a couple of snow mountains in the commuter parking lots, but at least they're shrinking.

The snow is still blowing, but at least there isn't any more falling to the ground.

Winter weather is unpredictable, but don't let that get you down. We'll be able to see the ground soon, and we'll replace our sweaters with tank tops before you know it.
