More than 16,000 still without power in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — Utility crews are continuing to work to restore power to thousands of homes and business in central and southern Indiana in the wake of this week's winter storm.

Duke Energy reports about 14,300 homes and businesses were without power shortly after noon Thursday. Duke Energy spokeswoman Angeline Protogere says the utility has had more than 175,000 outages since Monday.

The areas with the most locations still without power were Vigo County in western Indiana, with 7,243 outages, Monroe County in southern Indiana with 2,791 outages, and Fayette County in eastern Indiana with 1,310 outages.

Indiana Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Emily Norcross says another 2,000 people in rural Indiana were without power.

Protogere says more people may still see outages as branches and trees weakened by the storm fall.
