MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State's rally comes up short

Hartley produces off bench with 11 kills

In an attempt to start conference play off with a win, the Ball State men's volleyball team fell just short of its goal.

Ball State lost 3-2 (22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 10-15) to Lewis on Friday night at the Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill.

Lewis took control of the match early by taking a close first set before cruising to an easy win in the second game.

After rallying to win the third and fourth set of the match, the Cardinals were bested by the Flyers by a score of 15-10 in the final set.

The loss pushes Ball State's record to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the MIVA, breaking its three game winning streak.

Middle blocker Anders Nelson and outside attacker Dominic Spadavecchio led Ball State with 13 kills each. Nelson also ended the match with a .526 attack percentage.

Jaimon Hartley came off the bench for the Cardinals to tally 11 kills in only three frames of play.

Marcus Imwalle had a game to forget, finishing with six kills and eight attack errors for a -.083 attack percentage.

Ball State will travel to Fort Wayne today to take on IPFW at 7 p.m. in its second MIVA match of the season.
