Loss at Akron drops Ball State from first in MAC West

Ball State fell to its second straight Mid-American Conference East Division opponent Saturday night in a 75-60 loss to Akron, dropping the Cardinals to 14-10 overall and 6-5 in the MAC.

Jarrod Jones came two rebounds short of recording his 10th double-double on the season, leading all scorers with 19 points and pulling down eight boards in the loss.

Chris Bond scored nine points while Randy Davis brought in eight and dished out four assists.

Five Akron (15-10, 6-5 MAC) players scored in double figures.

Ball State shot only 10 of 17 (58.8 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Zips shot 8 of 24 from 3-point range, while the Cardinals were 3 of 10 from behind the arc.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall a half game in the West behind Western Michigan, which defeated Ohio 85-83 Friday night.

The race for first place in the MAC West looks to come down against Western Michigan, who is 13-10 overall and 6-4 in the MAC.

The two meet March 2 at Western Michigan.
