Ind. woman freezes to death near cemetery

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a north-central Indiana woman froze to death after she apparently fell while visiting relatives' graves in a cemetery.

WTHR-TV in Indianapolis reports that 42-year-old Georgann Benziger's family contacted the Howard County Sheriff's Department around midnight Tuesday after she failed to return home from work in Kokomo about 40 miles north of Indianapolis.

Officers searched all night for Benziger before finding her body Tuesday morning near Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.

WTHR reports that relatives say Benziger had been visiting the graves of some of her family members there.

Investigators believe Benziger became disoriented after falling on the ice and wasn't able to get into her locked vehicle. The temperatures were in the mid-twenties at the time.

An initial autopsy report indicates that Benziger died of hypothermia.
