Hoosters-esque sports bar opens in March

Show-Me's, a Hooters-style sports bar, plans to open its doors on Bethel Avenue in March.

The sports bar's website advertises similar elements such as wings, beverages and attractive waitresses that are being used to compare the bar to Hooters.

"A Show-Me's Girl is an attractive, model-like server who is in good shape, fun-loving and good at her job. She is one of the foundations of the Show-Me's concept. In addition to waiting tables, you may find the Show-Me's Girls making special appearances for promotional and charity events throughout their community," according the sports bars website.

Although the barely dressed women might not be enough for every customer, freshman business major Joseph Butera said.

"I'd rather have good food than hot waitresses," he said.

Throughout the community, there has been controversy over whether or not the sports bar should be able to obtain a liquor license, but last Thursday they succeeded.

Freshman pre-med major Ashlei Echols said she hopes to see the bar and restaurant open because it offers students more dining options.

"I wouldn't [be] opposed to it. I think the city's kind of sheltered, but it is a college town so I'm sure it'll attract a lot of younger guys. I don't know if I'd personally ever dine in though," Echols said.

Other female students on campus had similar reactions to the dining facility.

Freshman nursing major Olivia Quiroz agreed it would be doubtful if she would ever dine at the sports bar. She said she would never work there because of the attire the waitresses are required to wear which consists of black shorts and a tank top that exposes their midsections.

Regardless of the attire, Show-Me's is trying to have a positive image.

The mission statement on Show-Me's website said the company hopes to ensure each guest receives prompt, professional, friendly and courteous service. They also hope to maintain a clean, comfortable and well-maintained premise for guests and staff. Even more so, the bar wants to provide a fair price using only quality ingredients and a casual and fun atmosphere.

The news of the new restaurant is gaining popularity among Hooters fans on campus.

"Another great place for the men at Ball State to dine and have a good time," freshman sports administration major Taylor Orr said.
