INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and 20 other Republican governors are asking U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to make changes in parts of the federal health care overhaul that they feel put states at a disadvantage.
The governors sent a letter Monday seeking flexibility in choosing which licensed insurers can operate in their states and asking the government to waive provisions they say discriminate against consumer-driven health plan like health savings accounts.
The governors said states should have more power in the health care system.
Daniels also authored an op-ed piece in Monday's Wall Street Journal, in which he labeled the reform a "massive mistake" and said it would cost Indiana taxpayers $2.6 billion to $3 billion over a 10-year period.
