With resumes in hand and dressed in their best, students from every grade and major made their way to a job hunter's paradise, the Cardinal Job Fair.
The fair featured 70 booths from different organizations, including the Marines, Red Frog Events and Praxis Consulting in Worthen Arena Thursday.
Bigger franchises such as Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Walgreens also met with students, providing them with information as well as free product samples.
But beyond the complimentary snacks and colorful pamphlets was a bigger opportunity — the chance to start a potential career.
Becky Millsaps, a Ball State alumna and representative of Praxis Communication, an insurance subrogation company, said Praxis is not looking for students from one specific major.
"We look for all types of majors, there's nothing specific to our company. We do a lot of on-the-job training, so it's open to all majors," she said. "We just look for very proactive people that show a lot of initiative, and people that are just ready to work."
Sophomore organizational communication major Michael Hole said it was the first career fair, and he felt he could see a future with some of the companies that visited. Hole said his major has strong ties with the businesses he learned about.
"A lot of these companies, even though they specialize in sales or marketing, are still very interested in communication because it deals with many aspects of their business," he said.
James Davis, a Ball State alumna and regional HR Manager for Frito-Lay, said he remembers attending campus job fairs as a student.
"As a former student here, I walked through this job fair as well, so it's important to go back to where I started," he said. "Just being back here makes me want to encourage students to join Frito-Lay even more than at other job fairs."
Whether it was a chance to find a job, score some snacks or to just get out of the warm, there seemed to be something for all majors at the Cardinal Job Fair.
Freshman telecommunications major Robert Brooks volunteered to work at the fair, and said he thought the event was an excellent source for student career-seekers.
"You may not know when another opportunity like this will come up. It's great to have a job fair where so many different businesses are under the same roof," he said.
