Trendz of Essence works around the word 'fashion'

Students will have the chance to not only express themselves through fashion, but also different other acts at Friday's Trendz of Essence Modeling and Dance Troupe's annual fashion show.

Trendz of Essence's event is at 8 p.m. in the Student Center, with the theme of "the definition of fashion." Cesalie Black, public relations chairwoman for Trendz of Essence, said the organization divided into different groups and each group used one word associated with fashion to choose their designs.

"Our word was ‘addicting' so we tried to focus more on jewelry and other accessories we thought could be addicting in fashion," she said.

This is the first time the senior public relations major is

participating in the event.

"We've put a lot of time into the show," Black said. "We've been working since June 2010."

Ti'asha Oglesby, president of Trendz of Essence, said this year's event was somewhat more difficult to put together because it involved more elements.

"This year involved a lot more student organizations, a lot more details, a lot more components," she said. "We definitely had some obstacles because we were doing it more elaborate, and it took more extensive preparing."

This year the event will include not only the fashion show, but also different acts.

"We're putting a lot of elements that people hadn't thought of

before," Black said. "We are expecting some many different aspects and a lot of diversity."

Black said the organization expects a turnout of 250 to 400 people.

"We have more organizations participating, and also some of the members' families are coming out, so we are expecting a great audience," she said.

Some participating organizations and sponsors include Black Media Association, Charlotte Russe and Body Central.

Oglesby said she hopes to see a big turnout.

"I'm expecting nothing aside of greatness, I really hope to see

talent," she said. "It's a lot different from what we've done in the past. We are adding a lot of components to the show [and are] excited to see it come together."
