The Silo continues jazz band tradition

'Live Jazz Tonight' performs at the venue every Wednesday

"Live Jazz Tonight" might not seem like a band that performs at bars in the Village and downtown Muncie, but the trio has been performing at venues such as Motini's and The Silo for more than four months.

Diatetics graduate student and manager at The Silo, Aharon Roberts, moved the group from performing on Saturdays to Wednesdays.

"The previous manager started [involving ‘Live Jazz Tonight']," Roberts said. "But I moved them to a different time to give them their own day."

The Muncie-based band consists of double bassist/flutist Paul Rhine, pianist Phil Cooley and drummer Charlie Owen. They perform a lot of original work, but also do covers of popular jazz songs. However, different musicians and vocalists also contribute to the band's performances.

Jazz vocalist Paula Owen, whose husband is the drummer, also performs with the band.

"Live Jazz Tonight" performs every Wednesday at The Silo from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Silo is located on the corner of Walnut and Adams streets and is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.
