Snow covers Ball State's campus

A few inches of snow blanketed Delaware County yesterday causing property damage in the area and covering Ball State's campus. However Kevin Kenyton, Ball State vice president of Facilities, Planning and Management, said the snow isn't anything his department can't handle.

"A lot of times you don't see snow removal because it happens before classes start, but this time that wasn't possible," Kenyon said. "It's kind of light, fluffy snow which is easy to deal with."

Lori Cox, afternoon supervisor of the Muncie Police Department, said apart from the property damage, things have been running smoothly across the city. There were about 25 accidents county-wide, but Cox said that wasn't out of the ordinary.

"If it started blowing then we might have more problems," Cox said.

Also, according to Christy Luellen, director of Communications at Muncie Community Schools, one bus had a minor accident Tuesday after leaving the Muncie Area Career Center. There were no students on board at the time, and the bus driver was treated at the scene by medics.

The weather did stir up some road trouble for drivers in Indianapolis and the surrounding area.

The Indiana Department of Transportation dispatched 90 snowplows to clear Indianapolis area roads when the storm began.

The National Weather Service said Tuesday snow could continue over the next few days with a 40 percent chance of snow during the day today and a 20 percent chance of snow Thursday evening.

Indiana State Police recommends motorists use the following cautions when driving:

* Clear all windows, head/tail lamps of snow and ice

* Turn headlights on, even in the daylight hours

* Reduce speed

* Be aware of sudden stops

* Keep distance between vehicles, don't tailgate

* Hang up cell phones, and drive with caution

* Buckle up

* MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN when approaching emergency and highway service vehicles.
