Chirps, perches and flips

The Daily News compiles a weekly list addressing issues to which individual staff members "Give A Chirp," "Flip the Bird" or "Perch on the Fence." These views do not necessarily agree with those of the newspaper.

Chirps

To Brady Hoke being named head coach at Michigan. We're happy he's found success.

To arts education at community centers in Muncie, like Cornerstone, at a time when funding for arts education in the public schools is drying up.

To students sticking with their New Year's resolutions. We hope it stays busy at the Student Wellness and Recreation Center.

Perches

To the several inches of snow that fell Tuesday and this morning. It can be fun to play in the snow, but the conditions can be a danger to drivers and people walking to and from class.

To Gov. Mitch Daniels' State-of-the-State address for supporting improvement to public education but without specific plans for improvement.

Flips

To the $13.6 million budget cut proposed by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. We hope Daniels will consider our total accomplishments and not just our lack of four-year degrees earned in 2003 and 2008.

To the campus bus shuttle service. It's nice that the Blue Loop is back, but it doesn't seem as if there are enough shuttles running to service the demand for all three loops.

To the state of the football team. Hoke's move up is great, but we haven't been as fortunate.
