Sprinkler causes water damage in IU Memorial Union

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University officials say an electrical short caused a sprinkler head to discharge in the Indiana Memorial Union, which led to water damage on three floors.

The sprinkler head activated outside the Starbucks coffee shop in the IMU Gallery and sent water down into The Commons and then the Dunn Meadow Cafe area.

Facility services staffer Jack Kannady tells The Herald-Times the sprinkler went off late Sunday and ran for about 20 minutes before being shut off.

He says damaged ceiling tiles and three or four computers and printers will need to be replaced, along with some repainting.

Kannady says he expects all damage to be repaired by the time spring semester classes start Jan. 10.
