INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The first significant snowfall of the season in parts of Indiana was blamed for traffic tie-ups and at least 100 traffic accidents, including one in which an SUV slid into a retention pond.
Indianapolis police reported at least 100 accidents in the city by Wednesday afternoon. Parts of I-69 north of Indianapolis were temporarily closed because of wrecks. State police say a 24-year-old driver suffered cuts in a rollover crash along I-74 in Boone County, and a 19-year-old had a broken pelvis caused by a two-vehicle crash along Indiana State Road 25 near Americus.
On Indianapolis' northwest side, an SUV slid into a retention pond at a shopping center and began sinking, trapping the driver. Two officers broke into the car and rescued the woman, who wasn't seriously injured.
