Muncie gets first snow of December

Snowflakes began to fall in Muncie late last night. By morning, the ground was blanketed with about an inch of snow.

Around Central Indiana, snow and ice covered the roads. Before noon, about half a dozen vehicles had wrecked or veered off the road along I-69 between Indianapolis and Muncie.

At 12:30 p.m., both northbound lanes of I-69 near mile marker 69 were closed due to a jackknifed semi truck. Southbound lanes in the area were reduced to one lane of traffic due to the crash, according to a press release from Sgt. Tony Socum of Indiana State Police Peru Post.

The National Weather Service placed Delaware County under a hazardous weather outlook along with other Central Indiana counties. More snow is expected to fall tonight, and some slick spots may develop on roadways.

Mixed rain and snow are expected Thursday through Tuesday, according to the weather service.

The weather service predicts a chance of snow showers before 4 p.m. today and then a chance of flurries later this evening. Temperatures are expected to reach a low around 22 degrees.
