Ball State appeared to have a championship hangover at the beginning of the night against Akron. It took half the match for the Cardinals to snap out of it, but when they did, they dominated.
Ball State bounced back from a 25-21 first-set loss to defeat Akron in the next three sets 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.
Senior libero Alyssa Rio turned in another impressive performance. Rio sent multiple free balls over on the run and on her knees. She also recorded a kill and finished her final home match with 29 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Whitney Heeres led the Cardinals with 14 kills. Junior middle blocker Jennifer Boyd finished with 13 kills while freshman Kylee Baker ended with 10 kills.
Ball State finished the regular season 24-4 and 12-2 in conference play. The Cardinals went undefeated at home, a perfect 12-0 in 2010. The last loss at Worthen Arena came to Eastern Michigan in November 2009.
Ball State heads to the Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed, where it will face Kent State or Toledo in the quarterfinals.
