Indiana Gov. Daniels skips Obama's state trip

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels skipped President Barack Obama's trip to the state to make a previously scheduled speech about his legislative agenda for next year.

Daniels' luncheon speech on Tuesday to the Indianapolis Rotary Club came at the same time Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were in Kokomo as part of their visit to a Chrysler factory in that city.

Daniels has been a frequent critic of Obama's economic stimulus programs and is often mentioned as a possible 2012 Republican presidential candidate.

Indiana Republican chairman Murray Clark said Obama's trip was an honor for the state, but comes weeks after voters "overwhelmingly rejected" the policies the president came to promote.
