Ind. House speaker offers panel chairs to 2 Dems

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — New Republican Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma said he's serious about seeking bipartisan support in the upcoming legislative session — so serious he's offering committee chairmanships to two Democrats.

It's the first time in state history that the majority leader has asked minority members to lead committees, Bosma said.

Bosma said Democratic Rep. Steve Stemler of Jeffersonville could lead an economic development committee and Democratic Rep. Chet Dobis of Merrillville could head a committee examining state laws and regulations. Republicans would be vice chairmen of the committees.
