Coats, Ellsworth plan quiet days after Senate race

INDIANAPOLIS — Republican Dan Coats plans to have a quiet day the morning after Indiana voters returned him to the U.S. Senate seat he left in 1999.

Campaign spokesman Pete Seat says Coats will be spending time with his family and making calls to thanks supporters on Wednesday.

Coats beat Democratic Rep. Brad Ellsworth and Libertarian Rebecca Sink-Burris on Tuesday for the seat currently held by retiring Democrat Evan Bayh.

The victory for Coats helped Republicans pick up a net six seats in the Senate.

Ellsworth campaign spokeswoman Liz Farrar said Ellsworth was traveling back home to Evansville on Wednesday after spending Election Night in Indianapolis.

Neither candidate planned any public appearances.
