Well-O-Ween prepares students for Halloween weekend

With more than 1,000 students attending the Student Recreation and Wellness Center's Well-O-Ween, health educator Julie Sturek said she hopes the first event was successful enough to bring it back next year.

"I am very happy with the way things have turned out for our first time putting on this event," Sturek said. "It's going to continue to be a tradition every October at Ball State."

While dancing to songs such as "The Electric Slide," students checked out 37 booths to learn about the seven dimensions of wellness. Booths had pamphlets, tests, screenings and free items such as toothbrushes. Halloween-themed fitness classes were also available on the upper floor, with Monster Mash Zumba being one of the most popular.

Freshman hospitality and food management major Michael Lagestee went to the event with his jogging class.

"They have a lot of cool tests here that can help people," he said.

Two booths with long lines were the Nutrition Assessment Lab and Seagraves Chiropractic. The Nutrition Assessment Lab offered body fat assessment. After students found out their body fat, the group offered advice on how to improve results. Seagraves Chiropractic performed a spinal analysis.

Another popular booth was the Lifetime Skin Care Center, which offered chair massages.

Diabetics graduate student Stephanie Jenkins got a free body fat scanning.

"I think it's really important to know your body fat and where you stand and if you're in the right ranges," she said.

Flu shots were also being offered at the Health Center booth, where pharmacists administrated more than 50 shots during the event.

Freshman business sales major Cole Frageman said he definitely go back to the event next year.

"I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Everyone was trying to sell their product and inform students," Frageman said.
