Ind. gets $16 million for community health centers

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana is getting more than $16 million in grant money through a federal program to help build and renovate community health centers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the grants will help serve about 8,700 new patients in Indiana.

Neighborhood Health Clinic Inc. in Fort Wayne is getting $6.7 million; Riggs Community Health Center Inc. in Lafayette is getting $3.5 million; and Open Door/BMH Health Center Inc. in Muncie is getting about $6 million.

The money is being made available to community health centers through the federal health care overhaul law.

The Indiana grants are part of $727 million in grants awarded to 143 community health centers across the country.
