Career center to offer courses on how to prepare for a career fair

The Ball State Career Center starts its first program series Monday, offering presentations for students to learn etiquette, interview techniques, how to write résumés and cover letters, among other topics.

The series of events, which ends Sept. 28, was planned in preparation for the Fall Career Fair. The Career Center expects students will use the programs to receive guidance while getting ready for the fair.

"Most of the ‘Professional U' programs are fast, easy and only 30 minutes long," James Mitchell, senior assistant director of the Career Center, said in a statement. "We are providing programs that are shaped around the students' busy schedules."

The first presentation starts at 4 p.m. today in the Whitinger Business Building, Room 216. Students will get a better understanding of how to use Cardinal Career Link, which helps students network with companies. Other courses will offer information on writing effective cover letters, making contacts at the job fair and finding jobs at the fair.

The Fall Career Fair offers students the opportunity to interact with more than 100 employers from companies of different fields and backgrounds. Students can find internships and full-time positions at the fair.

Students can contact the Career Center at careercenter@bsu.edu or 765-285-1522. They can also follow them @CareerCTRatBSU or facebook.com/bsucareercenter.
