Ball State invited community to first football game of the season

The Muncie community was invited to the home opener Thursday night against Southeast Missouri State as a part of Community Day.

Community Day was a platform point for Student Connection, the 2010-11 Student Government Association slate. Its goal was to bring Muncie residents out to the game and let them feel and see what the university atmosphere is like.

"Community night was awesome," SGA President Pro Tempore Kayla Pickersgill said. "There were so many parents that came out tonight, and they were all grateful that we put this on. We had parents asking if this was something we were going to do for every home game. It was a wonderful evening tonight to have the residence of Muncie come out to the game."

For parents it was a nice evening and a fun event to enjoy with their children.

"It's nice that Ball State is finally trying to reach out to the community," Ball State alumnus Dave Burger said.

Ball State students noticed the community members at tonight's game as well.

"With Ball State being within the city of Muncie, I think it's a great thing that we are hosting community night to give them the chance to come and see what we are about," freshman nursing major Olivia Cosgray said.

The event was cosponsored by SGA, the Athletics Department and the Muncie Chamber of Commerce.
