UPB's Quad Bash expects high student turnout

To finish Welcome Week, University Program Board is hosting its annual Quad Bash at 7 p.m. Friday. This event typically brings in more than 1,000 students for a night of music, free food and a movie.

"The Quad has served at the host of this event for decades," said Dillon Kimmel, vice president of marketing for UPB. "We find it's the best-suited venue on campus to meet the logistical needs of the event."

Kimmel said there will be several large inflatables, including a Slip ‘n Slide; live entertainment from the light-rock band The Travelers; and a 9 p.m. showing of "Iron Man 2" on a blow-up screen.

"Because Labor Day weekend is not right after Welcome Week, as it normally is, we expect our numbers to be even bigger with hopefully less students going home that weekend," Kimmel said.

Cosponsoring Quad Bash with UPB this year will be the Interfraternity Council. Council President Austin Gerber said fraternity men from a variety of chapters will be at the Quad Bash. Students interested in greek life will be able to meet active members and have questions answered.

"We feel that Quad Bash is a very successful event that is known for attracting numerous freshman males, which is the type of candidates that our organization recruits this time of year." Gerber said.

Students can keep an eye out for future events sponsored by UPB throughout the year.

"Look for open mic nights, comedians, trips off campus, as well as our traditional events like Fall Fest and the haunted house," Kimmel said.
