IU student charged with stealing from Ball State vehicles

An Indiana University student visiting with friends this weekend was arrested after attempting to steal change from vehicles in a Ball State University parking garage, police say.

Early Sunday morning, Bradley S. McFadden, 18, Greenwood was reported breaking into several vehicles in the parking garage located between the Noyer and Park residence halls. McFadden was seen entering a vehicle by a Ball State officer and was later removed, according to a court document. After removing McFadden from the vehicle the officer found a credit card, change, rolling papers and a set of diamond earrings in his possession.

McFadden is facing three counts of preliminary theft charges, three counts of preliminary charges of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, possessions of paraphernalia, minor consumption and public intoxication. McFadden was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Police Department where his bond was set at $24,000.

As a precaution to such events Ball State students are being asked to lock their vehicles and remove all valuable items from their cars.

"Its very important that everyone locks their car door. If its necessary to store valuables in the car place them out of sight," Robert Fey, associate director of public safety, said.

"In some cases it might be spare change that is stolen and other times it could be something more valuable," Fey said.

McFadden's arrest was just one of many made over the weekend. Welcome Weekend at Ball State led to multiple arrests for minor consumption, possession and DUI's.

Ball State University Police as well as Delaware County, Indiana State Police, Excise Police and Muncie Police Department made 36 arrests and wrote 136 tickets over the weekend.
