INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana cities of Muncie and Kokomo are receiving a total of more than $3 million for community development and affordable housing from the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says it has awarded Community Development Block Grants worth more than $1.5 million to Muncie and worth more than $1 million to Kokomo.
Muncie is also receiving a $670,000 Home Investment Partnerships grant to build affordable housing for low-income families.
Community Development Block Grants generally are used to rehabilitate affordable housing and improve public facilities. They are distributed to communities based on a formula involving a community's population, poverty, age of housing stock, and extent of overcrowded housing.
HUD announced the grants Thursday.
