MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State outside attacker's block selected as finalist for Play of the Year

A highlight from the No. 13 Ball State University men's volleyball team's season is up for play of the year.

Outside attacker Larry Wrather's match-winning solo block against then-No. 3 Cal State Northridge University is one of three finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Men's Play of the Year.

The winner of this award will be determined through an online vote on the AVCA website. Voting started last week and ends at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Wrather's block completed a sweep against the Matadors in March — one day after Cal State Northridge swept Ball State. It was also the first time the Cardinals had defeated a top-five ranked team since February 2010.

The Ball State highlight is in second place with 15.3 percent of the total vote as of Monday night.

The highlight of the University of Hawai'i outside attacker Joshua Walker's kill that hit off a UC Irvine player's head and went into the stands is in first place with 81.6 percent of the vote. In addition, the other finalist — a highlight of a player diving into press row while chasing a ball from a match between New Jersey City University and City Tech University — is in third place with 3.1 percent of the vote.

Throughout the season people could submit a video highlight from a high school or college match to be considered for the men's play of the year.

The AVCA Men's Play of the Year winner and final poll results will be announced Friday.
