Incumbent Indiana state senator Sue Errington defeated two opponents to win the Democratic primaries for the district that includes Ball State University.
Errington won the District 26 senate Democratic primaries on Tuesday with 6,505 votes and 60 percent of the total vote.
Errington was first elected to the state senate in 2006 after serving on the Delaware County Council. In the senate, she is a ranking Democrat on the Health and Provider Services Committee.
District 26 includes Delaware County and Madison County.
Lewis Coulter finished the primary in second place with 3,023 votes and 28 percent, and Jeff Ellison ended in third place with 1,329 votes and 12 percent.
Errington will go up against Doug Eckerty in the November election. Eckerty was nominated to be the Republican candidate for the District 26 state senate seat Tuesday.
