The Muncie Symphony Orchestra will end its season in a big way, said executive director Elissa McDonald. For its season finale, the 75 piece orchestra will join the Ball State University Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, University Choral Union, Muncie Area Dancers and Heart of Indiana Children's Choir for an adaptation of "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff on Saturday at John R. Emens Auditorium. McDonald said the performance will be "huge."
Orff wrote "Carmina Burana" in Germany during the 1930s. He wanted to create a musical experience that would represent the basics of the human experience. He used the ancient concept of the Wheel of Fortune to tell the musical story in a cyclical way. The show begins and ends with the piece "O Fortuna."
McDonald said the Muncie Symphony Orchestra always ends its season with large productions.
"We always want to do something big and unforgettable," she said.
"Carmina Burana" will start at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The show will be directed by the orchestra's artistic director, Bohuslav Rattay. Tickets are $29, $22 and $16 for adults and $5 for children.
