Four Ball State University men's volleyball players were named to the all-conference team on Thursday.
Libero Billy Ebel and middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic were selected to the First-Team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, and setter Ethan Pheister and middle attacker Anders Nelson were named to the Second-Team All-MIVA.
Ebel was second in the conference with a 3.05 digs per game average. The senior also was named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week six times — a Ball State record for most player of the week awards in a single season.
This is the second straight season Gasparovic has made the First-Team All-MIVA. As a junior, Gasparovic was second in the MIVA with a 1.42 blocks per game average and had a team-high .402 attack percentage.
Pheister earned second-team honors for the third consecutive season after posting a 11.73 assists per game average — fourth best in the MIVA.
Nelson also received his first all-conference honor. In his second season with the Cardinals Nelson was sixth in the conference in both blocks per game average and attack percentage.
This is the first season since 2002 that two Ball State middle attackers have been selected to the All-MIVA Team.
Ball State (18-10, 7-5 MIVA) will open the MIVA Tournament with its quarterfinals match against IPFW (12-16, 4-8 MIVA) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Worthen Arena.
