The Indiana Department of Transportation introduced yesterday a bus route connecting more than 30 Hoosier cities.
The Hoosier Ride intercity bus service is made possible through a partnership between Miller Trailways, The Indiana Department of Transportation and Greyhound Lines, Inc, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
INDOT Spokesman Will Wingfield said funds for the bus service were made available through a rural mass transit program, which connects smaller cities with larger areas across the country.
"Essentially, you can get on a Hoosier Ride bus and go to Indianapolis, and then get on a Greyhound and go to many places," Wingfield said.
Wingfield said prices range based upon the length of the ride, and there are separate prices associated with each stop. The bus route stops at 113 W. Main St. in Muncie.
John Miller, president of Miller Trailways, said he's excited to offer travel opportunities for rural passengers, according to the release.
Hoosier Ride is partially funded with a $2 million Federal Rural Transit grant from INDOT.
