Homecoming steering committee announces 'Rock the Red' 2010 theme

Ball State University's 2010 Homecoming Steering Committee has announced next year's theme will be "Rock the Red," and the group is working on planning the week's events.

"It's a way to get pumped with a rock ‘n' roll twist," Chanel Richards, chairwoman of the committee, said.

Next year, fireworks will be moved to Monday night's opening events at LaFollette Field, instead of being held at Scheumann Stadium on Wednesday after the flag football fianls.

Richards said she hopes the change in date and location will result in an increased attendance.

The steering committee also plans to add a new event to the week, a tailgate contest.

Richards said the winner of the event will win a grill. Specifics of the event will be announced at the spring informational meeting.

The spring informational meeting will be held on April 14 at 9:30 p.m. in the Alumni Center.

Students and student organizations are encouraged to attend to receive participation points, called Ashley points, and be introduced to the week of events.

Homecoming 2010 is scheduled for Oct. 4 through Oct. 9.
