Greeks to host human foosball tourney at Scheumann Stadium

Something new and different is taking place at 8 p.m. tonight at Scheumann Stadium as a part of this year's Nickelodeon-themed Greek Week events.

Ten teams of 20 people have already registered for the human fooseball tournament, inspired by the Nickelodeon show "Global Guts."

With two games in motion at a time, 80 people will be on the field. In a sort of non-contact rugby game, they will be sliding across horizontal lines as if they were figurines on a fooseball table trying to put the game ball in the goals set up on the sidelines.

Greek Week community service coordinator Austin Gerber said he expects the event to spark interest among students.

"I wanted to put together a fun event that people would want to go to," Gerber said. "It's for a good cause and a great way to get involved with the greek community."

With Pruis and Cardinal halls filled to capacity for Greek Week events on Monday and Wednesday, Greek Week event director Carson Lance said he expects another great turnout.

"We wanted to do something big since our rock, paper, scissors event went so well last year," he said. "Scheumann Stadium seemed like the right place to do it."

The event has raised about $300 so far that will be donated to the local Boys and Girls Club.

There is no entry fee for the event and anyone is welcome to attend.
