Ball State police still searching for slapper suspect

University Police Department is still searching for a man who battered three women on the Ball State University campus about two weeks ago.

Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said he hasn't been given any new information but the case is still active and detectives are still working on it.

Three women reported being slapped on the buttocks by a man on a bike while in the area between Worthen Arena and the Amelia T. Wood Health Center. Only two of them decided to file police reports.

The offender was identified as a young-looking man with brown hair, wearing a short sleeved T-shirt and dark clothes.

The women described the bike as 1950s-style, with large blue tires and big round handlebars painted chrome.

The university sent out an emergency e-mail informing students of the incidents, which sparked online debates and led to several Facebook groups and Internet videos. The largest Facebook group, the fan page for "The Ball State Ass Slapper," has more than 14,000 fans.

Some versions of the story also made national headlines.
