Future Choices, a Muncie organization that provides services to minorities and people with disabilities, will have a two-part audio conference on conducting effective accessibility surveys.
The conference is open to anyone interested in performing a survey from ADA-Indiana, an organization that seeks to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act in the state.
Surveys are done by business, government and educational institutions to ensure their facilities meet requirements of the ADA. Some of the aspects they look for are how close the building is to public transportation, whether parking is available and main entrance accessibility, among other aspects.
The conference will be about who can conduct a survey, how to conduct a survey and what tools are available to conduct a survey for the ADA. Topics to be covered include what to look for in an existing facility as well as a facility that has undergone renovation or was newly constructed since the implementation date of the ADA, according to a press release.
Those running the conference include Don Brandon, project director of the Northwest ADA information center; Bill Hecker, architect and accessibility consultant; Mark Derry, president at East Lake Derry and Associates and Barney Flemming, training and information specialist at the Northwest ADA information center.
The conference is from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at MITS in the J.B. Black Meeting and Training Room, 1400 E. Seymour St.
