Ball State University's end-of-the-season collapse is officially complete.
Ball State blew a 10-point second-half lead to visiting Ohio University today in their Mid-American Conference Tournament first round matchup, and ran out of gas in overtime with an 85-77 loss today at Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals' season ends with a 15-15 record.
Sophomore guard Randy Davis led four Ball State scorers in double-digits with 21 points, hitting 4-of-8 3-pointers, while also adding five assists. Freshman guard Jauwan Scaife added 17 points, while senior forward Terrence Watson had 14 and sophomore center Jarrod Jones had 12.
Ohio also had four players scoring double-digits, led by junior guard Armon Bassett with a game-high 25 points. Bassett hit 11-of-13 free throws, including several key freebies down the stretch in the second half and overtime.
MAC Freshman of the Year candidate D.J. Cooper missed out on a triple-double, as he finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Junior guard Tommy Freeman and forward Devaughn Washington both added 15 points for the Bobcats (18-14), who advance to Thursday's MAC Tournament Quarterfinal game in Cleveland vs. No. 1 seed Kent State University.
Ball State had 20 assists to just 11 turnovers in the game, but Ohio keyed in at the free-throw line, hitting 27-of-34 (79.4 percent) from the charity stripe, compared to just 11-of-16 for the Cardinals.
