WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State claims rare road victory at Western Michigan

Maggert continues tear through MAC play with another double-double

The Ball State University women's basketball team did something Saturday afternoon that it hadn't done in more than a month:

Win on the road in Mid-American Conference play.

The Cardinals shot 50 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 37-29 and defeated host Western Michigan University 78-62 at the Broncos' University Arena.

Junior forward Emily Maggert continued her All-MAC caliber play against Western Michigan, scoring a game-high-tying 18 points and grabbing a game-best 13 rebounds and also handing out four assists.

Maggert, who has been Ball State's leading rebounder in 23 of the Cardinals' 26 games this season, is now 15 boards away from the best rebounding season in program history.

Senior guard Audrey McDonald made a little more history of her own against the Broncos, finishing with 14 points and passing Porchia Green for 10th place in the Cardinals' all-time scoring list.

Sophomore center Amber Crago also added a career-high 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

For Western Michigan (7-19, 2-11 MAC), Miame Giden had a game-high-tying 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds off the bench, pacing four Broncos in double-digits.

Ball State (11-15, 5-8 MAC) returns to play Tuesday as it plays host to Northern Illinois University with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Worthen Arena.
