For 33 minutes Thursday night, Randy Davis played almost flawless basketball.
The point guard led Ball State University to a 64-59 victory against Bowling Green State University with a game-high 18 points and four assists. Davis turned the ball over only once, and made five of his six free throws.
After a year and a half of failing to meet the lofty expectations that the runner-up Mr. Basketball brought to Ball State, Davis is becoming one of the most reliable Cardinals.
"He made some big baskets," Bowling Green coach Louis Orr said. "I thought from the beginning to the end, he was the difference in the game."
Davis scored at least 10 points for the third-straight game. In that stretch, all Ball State victories, he is averaging 14 points and 4.3 assists.
Davis said he hasn't looked to score any more than usual in the past week.
"I just try to get everyone involved in the game," he said. "I figure if I can get everyone involved in the game, then my shots will come more easily."
Coach Billy Taylor attributed Davis' recent success to the hard work he has put in recently.
"Everyday, they're staying after practice," Taylor said. "They're always trying to improve their games. The success we're seeing is because of the hard work they're putting in."
Davis has not played prominently into many teams' scouting reports this year, but Orr said the confidence Taylor has in the sophomore is evident.
"He's a guy that probably flies under the radar screen," Orr said. "But he's on the floor an awful lot. He played 33 minutes, so anytime your coach keeps you on the floor that long, he knows what he has."

Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
