FOOTBALL: Defensive ends coach Hood promoted to defensive coordinator

Parrish promotes assistant coach to fill void after Graber's retirement

Defensive ends coach Jay Hood will replace recently-retired defensive coordinator Doug Graber, Ball State University announced Wednesday.

Hood spent the last year as the Cardinals defensive ends coach. Hood last served as defensive coordinator in 2008 with Miami University. He spent two years as the RedHawks defensive coordinatory, and helped the team to a Mid-American Conference East division title.

Ball State's defensive coordinator position has been open since Feb. 8, when Graber announced his retirement. At the time, coach Stan Parrish said he hoped to move quickly to fill the role.

Hood has been a coach for the last 25 years, including the last seven in the MAC.

In addition to his year as defensive coordinator at Miami, Hood was an assistant coach for the RedHawks from 2003-2007. Hood has also coached at Mesa State University and Fort Hays State University. He was a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University.
