After starting the 2010 season with a 2-0 record, the Ball State University women's tennis team dropped its first match of the year Saturday with a 7-0 shutout loss to Indiana University at the Muncie Northwest YMCA' Tennis Center.
The Cardinals struggled mightly as a team to the Big Ten Conference's Hoosiers, as they were unable to win a set in singles play and won a combined seven games in doubles.
Ball State's No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Sarah Hebble and freshman Lauren Pickrel had the most success against Indiana, losing 8-4 to the Hoosiers' Leslie Hureau and Myriam Sopel.
Indiana was even more dominant in singles play, as junior Georgina Thomson was the only Ball' State player to win three games in a set at all six spots. She lost 6-3, 6-2 to Katya Zapadalova at the No. 4 spot.
The Cardinals (2-1)' continue their homestand Wednesday as IUPUI' comes to Muncie for a 2 p.m. first serve.
