The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management will have its ninth annual internship and career fair today.
More than 15 employers, including the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Indiana Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be at the Alumni Center from noon to 4 p.m.
Most of the employers relate to the field, but some of the potential career starters will fall anywhere from landscape architecture to public relations.
Susan Taylor, assistant director of alumni programs, said participating employers typically have part-time and internship openings, but some come with full time positions.
'Even if a student isn't necessarily interested in getting an internship or job, the fair can be a good way to meet some Ball State University alumni and find out the benefits of the major,' she said. Some of the NREM Alumni Board of Directors will be available to talk to students and answer questions about trends and opportunities for their own areas of employment.
'At our last board meeting,' Taylor said, 'the department chair told us that there are more jobs available in the field than we even have students right now.'
With the world trying hard to go 'green,' it only makes sense that many NREM related jobs will open. There are even rumors about Ball State adding a homeland security major down the road.
Students will receive an attendance card to prove to their instructors they were there, and they can also help themselves to the light refreshments provided.
