Heart of the City, Muncie's downtown district, announced new contest events for Muncie Gras this year with provisions to host the event regardless of weather conditions.
According to a press release from Cheryl Crowder, Heart of the City program manager, "weather is not an obstacle." She said there will be plenty of restaurants and bars open to accommodate a crowd should the weather turn nasty. Many bars will also have heated tents this year.
There will be two new contests including the best Mardi Gras costume and the most eco-friendly costume. Contestants for the eco-friendly costume portion will be judged on their use of recyclable materials, style, and creativity.
Traditional Muncie Gras entertainment such as a mechanical bull, go-go dancers, dance party tent and an FM Music outdoor stage are back this year. Patrons can also expect to see Bessie the beer-giving bull and live music.
The MITS Trolly will be available from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., making runs to campus and Lyndenbrook hotels. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1 for $10. The ticket price at the gate is $15. They are available at wlbc.com or maxrocks.com.
Muncie Gras is an event for people 21 and older.
